August 28, 2002. Graduation
ceremony of the Ukrainian Lutheran Theological Seminary of Saint
Sophia took place on this day. Oleksandr Dich and Oleh
Okrugin received their Master of Divinity diplomas. Rector of
the Seminary, Professor David Jay Webber, Professor Roger Kovaciny,
Galician Eparchy Head Taras Kokovskiy and the ULC Bishop Vyacheslav
Horpynchuk took part in the ceremony.

August 27 2002. Vyacheslav
Horpynchuk, the ULC Bishop visited Kremenets congregation.
At meetings with Deacon Vasyl Andreychuk, the President of the
congregation, he discussed reconstruction works of the church
building in Kremenets. The Bishop has praised efforts of the congregation
and especially efforts of Deacon Vasyl Andreychuk in doing this

On July 30 Pastor Serhiy
Somin received a new car VAZ 2104 (Lada) from the ULC Episcopate.
This vehicle was bought thanks to the support of the "Thoughts
of Faith" mission society. It will be helpful to Pastor
Somin in his trips to the steppes villages of Ivanivka, Hamove
and Katerynivka (Mykolaiv Oblast). Pastor Somin has his pastoral
ministry there. Shuttle bus goes to one of these villages once
a week. No buses go to other villages at all! Before a new car
was also given to Pastor Serhiy Zuyev, who serves Lutheran missions
in Zaporizhia Oblast. May these cars serve well the cause of the

On July 26 Pastoral Seminar
on Evangelism took place in Sevastopol. Pastor John
Vogt (WELS) who is a pastor-advisor of the LBK in Sweden and Norway
was the speaker at the Seminar. Pastor John Vogt also led the
Seminar on Christian Stewardship in our congregation in Sevastopol
on July 27. On July 27 with assistance of Deacon Victor Pashchenko
Pastor John Vogt led the liturgy and preached during the worship

From July 12 to 15 the
First Ukrainian Forum of the Lutheran youth took place in Pushcha-Vodytsia.
The Bible verse for the Forum was taken from the Romans 1:16,
"I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the
power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the
Jew first, and also to the Greek." About 100 young people
from all the parts of Ukraine and the United States of America
took part in the Forum. Bishop V'yacheslav Horpynchuk has addressed
the Forum. Participants of the Forum studied the Epistle to Romans.
Pastors Yuriy Fizer and Serhiy Somin took pastoral care of the
Forum. Deacons Oleh Okruhin and Vadym Zinchenko were their good

From July 1 to 12 Vacational
Bible School took place in Kyiv, Kremenets and Ternopil.
Lutheran Preparatory students and teachers, Evangelical Lutheran
Synod youth as well as Ukrainian Lutheran Church Sunday School
teachers and Ukrainian Lutheran youth were teachers at the VBS.
Around 400 kids were able to study the Word of God, sing Christian
songs and learn fundamentals of the Christian faith in the VBS.
