
July 25, 2004. Doctor John
Lawrenz and his wife Phoebe were recognized by the Ukrainian Lutheran
Church for being very instrumental in the ministry of the Gospel
in Ukraine. After the liturgy on July 25 they have
received a special diploma and Ukrainian gifts in the Resurrection
congregation in Kyiv. Dr. John Lawrenz is a Professor of the Old
Testament in the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. For about 17 months
he has been a mentor of the ULC pastors from the Wisconsin Evangelical
Lutheran Synod. Both his wife and him won love of Ukrainian Lutherans
for their commitment to Christ. On July 27 the Lawrenzes have
left for the United States of America. We wish them blessed stay
in their homeland as well as continuous work for the glory of
our Savior Jesus Christ!

July 17, 2004. Ukrainian
Lutheran Youth Forum has begun its work in Puscha Vodytsia near
Kyiv. "I am not ashamed of the Gospel" (Romans
1:16) is the theme of this year Forum. About one hundred young
people and pastors have arrived to study the Word of God, to have
chapel services and Christian entertainment at the Forum.


Visiting Congregations
in the Tavrian Eparchy.
From July 6 through 10, 2004 Bishop of the Ukrainian
Lutheran Church V'yacheslav Horpynchuk accompanied by Dr. John
Lawrenz, Dr. Waine Borgwardt, and Mr. Thomas Conzelmann visited
congregations in the Tavrian Eparchy hosting Vacation Bible School.
The Bishop and representatives of the Thoughts of Faith Mission
Society were in the villages of Kubriaky and Ivanivka, Southern
Ukraine. They participated in the worship service conducted by
pastor Serhiy Somin on the Day of John the Baptist. They also
visited the Mykolaiv church of Christ the Saviour where pastor
Zonne serves as well as the Sevastopol church of Christ the Saviour
where Victor Pashchenko serves as a pastor. The guests had a chance
to communicate with pastors and laymen of the ULC, the VBS teachers
and interpreteurs and enjoyed the VBS closing concert in the Sevastopol
congregation.

Bishop Vyacheslav Horpynchuk, Dr. John Lawrenz, Dr. Wayne Borgwardt
and Mr. Thomas Conzelmann have visited parishes of Radomyshl,
Kremenets, Ternopil and Kam'yanets-Podilskiy. They
had meetings with the Vacation Bible School teachers, students
as well as members of the local congregations. The Vacational
Bible School in Ukraine is a joint projects of the Thoughts of
Faith mission society and the Ukrainian Lutheran Church.
