August 2005

July 30 - August 2, 2005. Under leadership of pastor Yuriy Fizer, the Youth Forum of the Ukrainian Lutheran took place in Puscha-Vodytsia near Kyiv. The topic of this year Forum was taken from Romans 1:16 "I am not ashamed of the Gospel." Ukrainian Lutheran Youth have finished studying Epistle to Romans at the Forum as well as had lots of other Christian activities and fun to the glory of God. The Forum was supported by the Thoughts of Faith Mission society.

July 22, 2005. A Child's Garden of Bible Stories is published in Ukrainian. The Bible is written in a language understandable for children. It is also well illustrated. The book is published by the Lutheran Heritage Foundation.

July 2, 2005. According to the old Ukrainian custom American brothers and sisters that arrived in Ternopil have been greeted by "bread and salt" by St. John and James Lutheran Church members. Pastor Taras Kokovskiy and President Valeriy Tkachenko have welcomed American guests and church choir sang them a blessing song "Many happy and blessed years." VBS 2005 is held in 13 ULC congregations.

June 26, 2005. On the 475th anniversary of the Augsburg Confession Presentation nine young people have received their First Holy Communion in the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Kyiv. Communing true and holy body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was a very moving event not for the new communicants only but also for the whole congregation who wished its new communicant members many blessed years in the Lord.

June 14, 2005. Bishop V'yacheslav Horpynchuk and other members of the All-Ukrainian Church Council took part in the meeting with the President of Ukraine, Victor Yuschenko. State-church relations were discussed during the meeting. Bishop V'yachelsav has asked President Yushcenko to help with introducing into Ukrainian schools Bible teaching on creation as well as to protect lives of the unborn children. The President has promised assistance to all the churches. He said, "We have to conjointly discover a proper formula of partnership between the state and the church and join our efforts where people need it most." To establish such a partnership a working group was organized as requested by the President. Ukrainian Lutheran Church representatives belong to the group.

June 9 - 12, 2005. Dr Wallace Schulz, Good News Journal editor-in-chief, eloquent preacher and theologian has visited Ukrainian Lutheran Church. Dr. Schulz was visiting us with his family. Dr. Schulz once was removed from his position of radio-speaker at the Lutheran Hour Ministries (LC-MS) for his clear Christian stand to defend Gospel and Lutheran Confessions. While visiting Ukraine Dr. Schulz has held conferences with translators and distributors of the Good News Journal in Ukraine and Belarus. Dr. Wallace Schulz has been awarded with the Special Diploma of Recognition by the Ukrainian Lutheran Church.
