ULC NEWS

May 31 - June 2, 2005. Triennial CELC meeting took place in Narita, Japan. "Eagerly Await the Savior" was the topic of this year's meeting. Representatives of the Lutheran Churches of all parts of the world took part in it. Ukrainian Lutheran Church was represented by Bishop Vyacheslav Horpynchuk. Interesting papers, beautiful sermons were delivered at the meeting as well as inspiring devotions. Bishop V'yacheslav led devotions and prayers on June 1. It was a special joy to accept into CELC membership the Lutheran Church of Indonesia and welcome the Lutheran Church in Portugal to participate in the meeting. The next CELC Triennial meeting is planned to take place in Kyiv, Ukraine in 2008.

May 20, 2005. Kyivan Eparchy Pastoral Conference took place in Kyiv. Pastor Pavlo Bohmat was leading the Conference. Pastor Vadym Zinchenko has delivered his paper "Sahaja -Yoga - Person's Self-Realization Cult". Pastor Zinchenko has skillfully demonstrated anti-Christian and anti-human essence of that cult. Participants of the Conference have discussed Pastor Zinchenko's paper as well as shared news from their parishes and their own experience in the ministry of the Gospel.

May 19, 2005. Seminar on evangeization took place in Kyiv. Professor David Valessky was the lecturer there. The seminar was provided by Ukrainian Lutheran Theoogical Seminary of Saint Sophia. Wonderful lectures of Professot Valessky made a great impression on ULC pastors as well as encouraged them to even more actively fulfill the Grear Commandment of our Lord, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19, 20).

May 18, 2005. ULC Synodical Council meeting took place in Kyiv. Bishop V’yacheslav Horpynchuk was leading the meeting. The Synodical Council has reviewed current affairs of the Church as well as made decisions on vicarage places for the future graduates of the Ukrainian Lutheran Theological Seminary of Saint Sophia. ULC pastors, ULTSSS Rector D. Webber, “Thoughts of Faith” representatives took part in the meeting.

May 8, 2005. "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee" (Exodus 20:12). Mother's Day was celebrated in Ukrainian Lutheran parishes on that Sunday. After the liturgies were celebrated, children and parishioners have presented wonderful concerts for their mothers and grandmothers. Children have also greeted mothers and grannies with beautiful flowers.

May 1, 2005. Ukrainian Lutherans celebrate light Resurrection of Christ. We greet each other on these days with the words, "Chrystos voskress! Voistynu voskress! - Christ Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed!" Resurrection Lutheran Church in Kyiv has celebrated this holiday with a special liturgy, thanksgiving for the gifts of life eternal and paschas (special Easter bread). Children of the congregation have prepared a wonderful concert and congregation members have treated each other with delicious meals afterwards.
