Appeal of Leaders of the Christian Churches
to the People of Ukraine
Concerning the results of the Presidential Elections

You shall not give false testimonies.
Deuteronomy 5:20

A false witness will not go unpunished,
and he who pours out lies will not go free.
Proverbs 19:5

Dear Brothers and Sisters! Respected Fellow Countrymen!

When the mass media released the information on preliminary results of
the Presidential elections that caused unseen in this country protest
actions, and in time when hundreds of thousands of our compatriots,
especially young people participate in them, and it is especially evident
in the capital city of Kyiv, we consider our duty as pastors and
citizens to state the following.

The Church has always been with the people, in times of joy and trials.
Presently when Ukraine is to make the choice of its future - democratic
or authoritarian, when there is a threat to the unity and even
independence of our Fatherland - the Church is with the people.

We as leaders of the Christian churches in Ukraine and as citizens of
our country are concerned over unjust development of the election
campaign and in particular - mass falsification of the results of the
people's choice. The Church is called to witness the truth, to preach love
and peace. Thus, it cannot concur with lies.

We, first of all, turn to believers with a call to fast and pray for
peace in our state and for implementation of the just results of the
Presidential elections.

We call upon our congregations and all the people of Ukraine to stand
for the truth, to maintain unity and peace, to keep the Constitution and
laws of Ukraine without violence.

We turn to authorities, in particular to those responsible for just
implementation of the people's choice, as well as to te Supreme and local
courts with an appeal to remember about their responsibilities before
God to carry out duties put on them by the people of Ukraine.

We are convinced that the Ukrainian nation will undergo the present
trials with wisdom and honour.

The truth is unconquerable!
We ask for God's blessings to all our compatriots!
